Just a small slice of bike life from Ireland

Hollister,California. The town that is credited with the birth of our outlaw culture.
I visited Hollister in 2002 to clear my head and mull over the fact that I had just retired from a bike club, that had been my daily life for just under 10yrs.  The town has changed a whole lot since Johnny and Chino punched it out on main steet.  I rode down to Johnny 's bar & grill for breakfast and sat opposite Wino Willies ashes, trying to decide if I had done the right thing retiring from club life, something I still wonder about regularly.
The 'city hall' and it's merchants still suck the blood from the bike rally annually and although I haven't  been there at that time of year, I can imagine the frustration of bikers trying to deal with crap from cops and the city.
If you visit Hollister in the off season however, and ride down main street in the dead of night, you can experience the spine tingling sensation that you are not alone, the echos of Knuckles and side valves doing burnouts and doughnuts in the dust of the past.
Check out the websites, the books, the movies of our culture BUT most importantly, kick your bike to life and get out there into the dirt and sounds that make this life what it is.  Ride.
